Berea Municipal Utilities Water Division is responsible for providing safe drinking water for approximately 28,000 residents in the Southern Madison County area. BMU serves nearly 4,200 meters in our service area as well as providing water to 5,450 meters in the Southern Madison Water District.
The Water Division operates and maintains the system infrastructure consisting of:
- Water Treatment Plant permitted at 6MGD
- The Owsley Fork, Cowbell, and B-Lake Reservoirs with a current combined raw water capacity of 800,000,000 gallons
- 360 Fire Hydrants
- 1,445 Valves
- 86 Miles of Distribution Lines
The Water Division treats and supplies approximately 1 billion gallons each year to our customers while meeting strict regulatory compliance, water quality sampling, and record keeping requirements.
